What is InFECT-NL?

InFECT-NL is the national hub for early-phase clinical research on infectious diseases and innovative anti-infectious therapies, led by  managing director Eline van der Hoek. InFECT-NL strengthens the national infrastructure for therapy development by bringing together expertise, facilities and research capacity in infectious diseases. InFECT-NL is part of the FAST hub network.

The hub is an initiative of Radboudumc, UMC Utrecht, Amsterdam UMC, LUMC and UMC Groningen with the ambition of connecting all academic medical centres in the Netherlands within one integrated network. This collaboration enables the Netherlands to respond more rapidly and effectively to urgent infectious disease challenges and accelerate the development of new interventions.

Early-phase clinical trials

InFECT-NL focuses on designing and conducting early-phase clinical trials, including first-in-human trials, challenge models and proof-of-concept studies.

By sharing knowledge, data, facilities and access to patient populations, we are building a strong national infrastructure. This enables us to support researchers, companies and societal partners in developing safe and effective medicines and vaccines against infectious diseases.

How we are organised  

InFECT-NL has a Managing Director and an independent board. The academic partners bring together the scientific expertise of the participating centres.

Our activities are supported by two key pillars: the knowledge valorisation hub InFECT-TT and the clinical research organisation INFECTA. InFECT-TT supports the translation of scientific ideas into further development and entrepreneurship. INFECTA focuses on early-phase clinical research.
